Pues sí, en el momento que se publica esta entrada me encuentro celebrando mi cumpleaños, otro más. Es verdad eso de que mejor cumplirlos que no. Sin embargo con el paso de los años van dándose situaciones en las que cada cumpleaños añade más matices, llamémoslos "desventurados" haciendo el intento de celebración un poco más complicado. Porque a ver qué cuerpo se te queda cuando te pregunta tu hija que cuántos cumples y al responderle se echa a llorar diciendo "Noooo, no quiero que te mueraaaas" Hala, y ahora sopla las velas.
There is so many good things about birthdays... How come I don't seem to be able to find them? It's like this all getting old thing is supposed to be awesome because it means you suddenly have all the wisdom blooming out of you like enlightnening everyone, sort of... But I am not there yet. I am in that middle age stage where my kids, far from admiring me as if I was freaking Kung-Fu wise (I am referring to David Carradine Kung Fu here, not Kung Fu Panda. Please. NOT.) only see me as a potential grandma for their dolls. This is why I find birthdays can get tricky at my age. But hey! let's have cake and make everything be better.

Cherry crisp - Postre crujiente de cerezas
Today I want to talk to you about the elfs. Yes, those elfs that seem to live in most homes without distinction of nationality, hemisphere or race. We had them in Madrid and they even came with us when we made our way over the ocean to America. In case you haven't heard of them, these little elfs are usually the those creatures to whom husbands and children attribute the ability to change the empty toilet paper roll during the night while they are sleeping. That is the reason why they never change it to a new one. Because of the elfs that show up during their sleep to change it so they will wake up to a new shinny white paper roll. I tried to stay up all night once to catch them but they decided not to show up in that ocasion so I had to change the roll myself. Wait, that was not just once. It might have happened twice... Or maybe three... four times?... Oh God, I think I am an Oompa Loompa.

Yogur-pudding glorioso de chía y frambuesa - Glorious PB, chía raspberry yogurt-pudding
A lo largo de mi vida he tenido épocas de súper fuerza y de súper poca fuerza. Me he sentido capaz de romper la guía telefónica en dos yo sola y también me he sentido como si una bola de algodón me pesara como la tierra al Titán Atlas. La falta de fuerzas la sigo teniendo con facilidad. Imagino que hasta que mis hijas no hagan selectividad por lo menos esa sensación me visitará con frecuencia. Pero la fuerza sobrehumana la consigo ahora muy fácilmente y cuando quiero con alimentos como el de hoy.
Through my life I have experienced times when I felt super strong. Strong like in being capable of tearing que phone book in two. And I also have experienced a lack of energy and strengh that made a cotton ball feel as heavy as the whole Earth. I still feel weak easily which I expect to keep happening until my kids go to college. But in order to feel strong like in superhuman strong I have relied on superfoods like this one that I bring you today. It fills me with tons of energy and it is probably one of the most deliciuos things I have ever prepared. It's not called SUPERfood for nothing.

Bocaditos rápidos de lemon curd - Lemon curd mini-hand pies
Being back home after a road trip vacation is sad because of the "vacation is over thing" but it also feels great. Especially when you get to sleep in your own bed again. There is nothing like one's bed. Or maybe the bed has noting to do with the good rest and all the credit must be given to the fact that after the long drive and before being able to rest my head in my pillow I had to unpack and do laudry. Three rounds of laundry. I did not try to lay down on the kitchen floor but it is pretty likely that I would have fallen asleep like a baby there too.

Lemon curd with Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Combining different flavors, condiments, textures, blending and mixing different ingredients to create new meals is at the same time fun and exciting and it keeps my palate active and awake. Most of the time. Because sometimes what my palate needs is just something simple, some rest. Because with food it is also true that less is more. A simple lemon curd with just the touch of Extra Virgin Olive Oil can represent a heaven of peace for our usually busy with spices palates. Let's give them a rest. Let's keep it simple.

Peras al vino rosado con anís estrellado - Poached pears in rosé wine and star anise
En mi cerebro, y estoy segura de que en el de mis hermanos también, se asocia de manera automática la palabra croqueta con la palabra mamá. No le hemos cambiado el nombre a nuestra madre por Doña Croqueta porque los más viejos del lugar recordarán a un-a señor-a muy poco estilosa por no decir un adefesio y eso mi madre no, que mi madre era ya una It girl en los años 60, y sin Instagram. La prueba al final del post.
Hoy no traduzco la introducción porque no sé decir croqueta en inglés, tendría que echar un vistazo a la carta de algún chiringuito de Benidorm a ver cómo lo ponen...
